Muscle knots in the sternalis are located just beneath the skin along one or both sides of the sternum, running vertically over the chest. Muscle knots can refer pain over the sternum, to the front of the chest, shoulder, and upper inner arm, sometimes mimicking heart-related discomfort like angina or even a heart attack.
