A Game Changer for Employee Productivity, Workplace Safety, and Team Morale

by Julie Zuleger, Ph. D., C.S.C.S., LMT, CPT, NASM-CES, RYT 500

Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) account for approximately 30% of all workers’ compensation costs in the workplace and are the largest category of injuries in the workplace according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Well-documented clinical research concludes 70-85% of all pain comes from little, tiny knots in the muscles (known as trigger points). Back pain, foot pain, forearm pain, headaches, and other muscular pain cause employee absences and reduced productivity. We all know from personal experience that when you’re in pain, you are highly distracted and cannot perform at your best.

Regular stretching and flexibility training, combined with Tiger Tail Self- Myofascial Release Techniques (SMRT) can help reduce pain and common injuries to muscles such as:

  • Muscular strains
  • Lower back pain
  • Tendonitis and bursitis
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Repetitive strain injuries such as carpal tunnel
  • Sprains and strains
  • Fatigue and discomfort
  • Soreness and stiffness

Benefits of Tiger Tail Self-Myofascial Release Techniques (SMRT) through muscle compression

To achieve the many health and muscle recovery benefits of Tiger Tail SMRT, the most popular and simplest technique is foam rolling. The compression from foam rolling warms up the muscles and fascia tissues. Muscle compression with tools or self-massage is easily done by applying light pressure to warm up the muscles and fascia, then increasing pressure and repetition for myofascial release. Muscle compression benefits include:

  • Restoring normal muscle function
  • Increasing blood flow
  • Increasing range-of-motion
  • Improving nutrition to the muscles

More than stretching and flexing

A recent study (Goldenhar & Stafford, 2015) showed that the benefits of a stretch and flex program go beyond warming up the body. Participation in the Tiger Tail SMRT Stretch & Flex program can:

  • Build camaraderie
  • Promote collaboration
  • Increase communication
  • Team building
  • Improve safety outcomes

It’s important to note that specific exercises and stretches will vary depending on the individual’s needs and the type of work they do. It is recommended to consult a professional to create a tailored stretch and flex program that is appropriate for the individual or company’s needs.
